Freising - Old Bishop’s Town at the Isar

Freising is an old Bavarian town. Cosy and gemuetlich. With corners and pathways and a spacious market square. For strolling and shopping, for sightseeing and enjoying. Time is slower here, even if the town is in some respects years ahead. Or maybe it is because of it?

If you haven’t been to Freising, you don’t know Old Bavaria! Freising is approx. a 25-minute drive north-east of Munich. It is the oldest town of Upper Bavaria and has an almost 1,3000-year long tradition. The romantic dome on the dome hill and numerous other historic monuments invite to being visited.

If you like museums you should visit the Diocesan Museum, which holds the biggest ecclesial art collection of Germany. The picturesque squares, pathways and corners invite to stroll around. In this town you can experience genuine bourgeois as well as student ambiance. Don’t miss out on a walk to the Weihenstephan hill with its “green” higher education institutions, the worthwhile gardens and the world’s oldest brewery. Great emphasis is placed on Old Bavarian hospitality!

The dome town is an ideal base for excursions, e.g. into the nearby capital of Munich or into Lower Bavaria with its scenic and cultural sights. The big, wide world is also at your doorstep – thanks to the Munich Airport, Freising can be easily reached from any country on the globe.
